He believes that success comes from refining systems and ensuring every step leads to meaningful results. “What I mean by execution is going through your steps, making sure you’re getting stuff done,” he explains. James takes a hands-on approach to streamline onboarding and team training by using carefully designed training videos and resources. “When I have new staff members coming in, I can execute and train them straight away with the go bag and the kit of tools I already have,” he shares.

One big mistake was overspending on a website. “I built an incredible website that I looked at and realized it was much costlier than if I had gotten what I would have wanted and taken the time to do better research,” he adds.

James uses these mistakes as stepping stones. “You have to be able to not just wait for your coach to let you know what to do. You have to be willing to go through those processes because that teaches you to just keep chipping away and getting things done,” he advises. For James, learning from mistakes develops resilience and confidence, which are essential for any entrepreneur. He emphasizes that mistakes, though difficult, are usually the triggers for improvement and success.
Patience Is Key
In today’s environment of rapid satisfaction, James highlights the value of patience in business development. “Everyone gets into business thinking it’s going to be smooth sailing, but it never is,” he said. Cash flow issues, staffing shortages, and unexpected labor demand are among the hurdles, particularly in specialty sectors like his own. Accept that there will be falls on the road to success. “There’s a process with this, and you have to trust it. Everything happens for a reason,” says James. That was indeed the philosophy that made his solo business venture into five businesses-giving employment to 26. “We are still being patient and understanding that there’s a process to what we’re doing,” he says.
Patience is not just waiting. It’s about continued effort and staying committed despite a perceived level of slow progress. James encourages his pupils that learning and development do not occur overnight. “This is not a get-rich-quick scheme. It cannot operate that way. You want to learn as you go,” he advises.
